30-Day Song Challenge Day 21 – A Song You Listen to at 3 a.m.

“I think there is a song out there to describe just about any situation.” (Criss Jami)

A friend and long-time loyal blog follower recently sent me a 30-Day Song Challenge meme in the hope that I couldn’t resist taking the challenge and blogging about it. Here’s Day #21 – A Song You Listen to at 3 a.m: Al B. Sure!, Nite and Day

As a certified night owl, 2:00 a.m. feels to me like it’s late at night. And with sunrise coming shortly after 4:00 a.m., that begins to feel like early morning. This means that 3:00 a.m. is right between night and day, which is why Nite and Day is perfect for this Challenge not to mention that I love this song.

I’m too often up way too late winding my way down a wide variety of YouTube music video rabbit holes but by 3:00 a.m. I’m trying to unwind. The smooth Nite and Day has a perfect sound and title for the wee hours of the night/morning.

In April of 2018 I got to see Me’shell at the Kennedy Center. Her show was an excuse for me to get to meet noted hip-hop DJ Melo Grant (“hip-hop for people who don’t like hip-hop”) who was coming down from Vermont. Our mutual friend Wanda had been trying to arrange Melo and I meeting for some time plus My Friend Wanda and I needed to fix the fact that we’d never been to a concert together. [1]

FC1D3720-4CD0-48B5-88DC-F2E3F8DCA0A5At the beginning of one song, Me’shell was noodling around with some dreamy keyboard stuff which was interesting but unremarkable. That is until what she was doing morphed into the recognizable beginning of Nite and Day at which point Ray, My Friend Wanda and Melo all looked wide-eyed at each other screaming OMG with our jaws also wide open. Great personal music moment. And as I like to say – live music, ain’t nuthin’ like it.

Tomorrow: a song with a long title.
