Quietly Vivacious

[cue The Weather Girls It’s Raining Men]

It’s raining men! Every specimen!

Tall, blonde, dark and lean

Rough and tough and strong and mean

God bless Mother Nature, she’s a single woman too

She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do

She bought every angel

She rearranged the sky

So that each and every woman Jenn could find her perfect guy

Oh, it’s raining men!

Twenty-five hot men entered the new Bachelor Mansion to begin their journey (take a sip!) to find love with the lovely new Bachelorette Jenn Tran. We know they were hot because of how often Jenn told us they were. If “hot” was your drinking game word, you were too lit to recognize whose journeys ended at the first Rose Ceremony.

Seven of those hot men were introduced to us by The Evil Genius Producers (EGPs) with intro packages. These matter, because the EGPs are signaling to us that these hot guys, in particular, will be important to the season. Per Bachelorette history from @Bachelordata IG, two or three intro package guys typically make the final four.

So keep your eyes on: Sam, Grant, Sam M, Thomas N, Aaron, Dylan, and Devin. Here’s a link to the cast in case you don’t remember all of these guys.

A few are worth commenting on. I was excited to see someone from Carlsbad, CA, a lovely SoCal town where I have personal and professional connections. Sadly, it’s represented by Sam, the “Love Virgin” who has never been in love [cue Foreigner I Want to Know What Love Is]. Actually, don’t cue that. That song is detestable. Let’s go with Bad Company I’m Ready for Love, followed by Bobby Womack I’m Looking For a Love to ensure the bad taste in my mouth is gone. Methinks Sam was cast for being good TV material rather than marriage material. The EGPs leaned into that by using him for the last-Rose-tonight-when-you’re-ready cliffhanger.

Aaron is the twin brother of Noah, a one-time Bachelorette villain turned good guy who found love on Paradise with the adorable Abigail. Their wedding is set for this fall.

I’m keeping an eye on Thomas N. Jenn really seemed to connect to him and his Vietnamese family history.

Even more important than getting an intro package is getting the First Impression Rose (FIR). Historically, two out of three FIR recipients have made the final four, and almost half of them won (@Bachelordata IG) [cue Doris Troy Just One Look1]. This bodes well for other Sam, non-love virgin Sam M, who got that significant Rose and an intro package. I thought his kiss on Jenn’s cheek after their initial convo was a smooth leave-em-wanting-more move. Apparently, she does [cue My Girl Britney Gimme More].

That said, I’m wondering if smooth-talking Sam M is too smooth. I’m getting The Luke-ness Monster vibes from Hannah B’s season. It’s not a prediction, but when things go so well at the start, I wonder if the EGPs are up to no good.

Speaking of the EGPs, I suspect they were behind the mini-beef between Brian and Jeremy that began with Brian “stealing” Jeremy’s Vette, i.e., stealing Jenn away from Jeremy during their convo in the car. First, why the big deal over Jeremy’s Vette? I’m sorry – the hot brother Grant (Jenn and Loyal Follower of These Musings CSP said he was) HAS A FERRARI!!!!!

Corvette base price $68,300. Entry-level Ferrari $247,360.
Game. Set. Match. Grant.

So am I to believe that Jeremy just leaves the keys to his precious Corvette around for anybody to pick up? And that anybody was Brian, who indicated during Jeremy’s arrival that he might have to steal the car. The whole scene seemed more awkward than emotional. Sorry, this had EGP scripting all over it.

Final musing – Jenn was a pleasant surprise. She was much more personable than she was on The Bachelor. Yes, it can be very difficult to show your true personality when all the audience sees is edited cuts of you among numerous other women and when the focus is on one guy. But if that was her personality, I couldn’t imagine her carrying the lead role.

Instead, I was charmed. The words that came to mind were quietly vivacious. It’s the qualities of vivacious (“attractively lively and animated”) but with the dial turned down a tad.

That’s a wrap. See you next week as the journey (last sip!) heads to Australia.

P.S. This week’s viewing wine was a Mira Salinas Monastrell from Spain with an excellent Quality-to-Price ratio. I’m kinda bitter that Jenn didn’t give a Rose to the sommelier.

P.P.S. Does anybody remember this guy? Who he? Did Jenn actually meet him or did one of the junior-level EGPs sneak into the Rose Ceremony? He didn’t get a rose, so he obviously didn’t make an impression on Jenn, either.

  1.  Yes, Linda Ronstadt did an excellent version. ↩︎
