30-Day Song Challenge Day 11 – A Song That Reminds You of Summer

Author Ed Miller: “Music is the weirdest human thing. A few dozen songs out of the zillions recorded fire off like a massive dopamine flood every time I hear them.

And then like other people don’t even like those songs.”

A friend and long-time loyal blog follower recently sent me a 30-Day Song Challenge meme in the hope that I couldn’t resist taking the challenge and blogging about it. Here’s Day #11 – A Song That Reminds You of Summer.

According to my daughters, every summer I would get obsessively into the catalogue of some artist. One year it was Joe Satriani. Another was Pat Benatar. And there was The Summer of Lenny Kravitz.

Well, there was also a Summer of Van Halen. And my girls got into the spirit that summer by frequently requesting Ice Cream Man which immediately evokes thoughts of summer ice cream trucks, along with hysterical and likely inappropriate images of David Lee Roth doing the salacious serving – “always aiming to satisfy”.

While Van Halen changed some of the lyrics, the song was written by John Brim, a Chicago blues artist who passed away in 2003.
