“I think there is a song out there to describe just about any situation.” (Criss Jami)
A friend and long-time loyal blog follower recently sent me a 30-Day Song Challenge meme in the hope that I couldn’t resist taking the challenge and blogging about it. Here’s Day #20 – A Song with a Number in the Title – 96 Tears, ?[1] & The Mysterians.
Gazillions of songs have numbers in their title. None has ever been recorded by a band with as cool a name as ? & The Mysterians. At #213 on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, 96 Tears is one of the first garage band hits and was a forerunner of the punk rock movement.
Honorable Mention – a non-exhaustive search through my music collection found these:
- One U2
- It Takes Two Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock
- 3 Chains O’ Gold Prince
- 4 + 20 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
- Five Long Years Freddie King
- Six Feet Under The Weeknd
- Seven More Days Terence Trent D’arby
- Eight Days A Week The Beatles
- Cloud Nine The Temptations
- Ten Cent Pistol The Black Keys
- Sixteen Candles The Crests
- Edge of Seventeen Steve Nicks
- I’m Eighteen Alice Cooper
- 25 Miles Edwin Starr
- 30 Minute Love Affair Paloma Faith
- 33 Years Muddy Waters
- Sixty Minute Man The Persuasions
- When I’m Sixty-Four The Beatles
- Ninety-Nine and One Half (Won’t Do) Buddy Guy
- A Thousand Miles Away The Heartbeats

Tomorrow: a song you listen to at 3 a.m.
