30-Day Song Challenge Day 22 – A Song with a Long Title

“I think there is a song out there to describe just about any situation.” (Criss Jami)

A friend and long-time loyal blog follower recently sent me a 30-Day Song Challenge meme in the hope that I couldn’t resist taking the challenge and blogging about it. Here’s Day #22 – A Song with a Long Title: Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)

Sly and The Family Stone was THE party band. It was hard to find a party (even in rural upstate New York) without a Sly record being played at some point. Dance to the Music, Life, M’Lady, Everyday People, StandSing a Simple Song, I Want to Take You HigherHot Fun In the SummertimeFamily AffairIf You Want Me to Stay, and the above songwhat a massive run of monster hits. And then the drugs got him. 😦

They were a multi-racial, male and female band that played across funk, soul, rock and psychedelic genres. In this regard, Sly was a forerunner to Prince. But I was too busy dancing and grooving to them then to realize then how they would be my gateway to go deeply into so many forms of music. Their eclectic artistry has – and still is – silently influencing my tastes.

Tomorrow: a song with a color in the title.
